28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

R. Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

Written by Jasmyn Joubert

Happy Sunday friends!

This week the psalm is a request that we should all have on our hearts. A plea to be filled with the love of the Lord. I think this plea is at the heart of what it is to be a Christian. If we are filled with the Lord’s love we will approach the world with that love. If all who follow Jesus were approaching the world with that love, think of the joy that would be spread through the compassion and patience shown to all that we encounter.

Sure, this is easier said than done especially when others hurt us or disagree with us (hello, election year). The psalmist answers this and asks the Lord to “Make us glad, for the days when you afflicted us, for the years when we saw evil.” This is what true joy is and it is easier said than done. It is something we need to ask for. Praying with this psalm allows us to humble ourselves and admit that we cannot find true joy without the Lord’s love guiding us.

How can you allow the Lord to fill you with love? In what areas of your life do you need to extend this love to others? Where are you lacking joy?
