Sunday of Divine Mercy

R. Give Thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love is everlasting.

Written by Julianna Nett

How often do you thank the Lord?

As I’ve grown, I feel myself thanking Him more and more. Every single day I wake up and have the gift of being able to just walk, go to work, and laugh; it’s a blessing. These are things I take for granted far too often and easily. Recently I was driving and attempting to pass someone at night. The car in front of me was going far too slow for my liking, and as I was speeding up in the opposite lane on the two lane backroad, the car did not seem to like that. They went ahead and sped up alongside me, and I was very close to a head on collision with another oncoming car while I was passing the slow car. Luckily, I was able to get back into the lane at the last second. Granted, had the car I was trying to pass stayed at their original speed of 10 under the speed limit, all would have been swell, but the point I am trying to make is not on driver’s safety. This really freaked me out. So much so that I turned down my music (no other song was playing than “Getaway Car” by Taylor Swift, very fitting. The Lord has quite the sense of humor). It made me really thank God over and over again for my safety. As I was praying that evening with my sister’s sweet dog next to me, I heard a voice say, “He’s not done with you yet”. I kept thanking Him and hope was restored that He is good and has good plans for me. Hope had not by any means been lost in that department before this, but it was definitely concrete reassurance.

He keeps me safe, which I am eternally grateful for, provides little things I don’t even think about, not to mention all of the amazing things he’s done for me or the “big things”, such as moving me to a big city doing a job I love, certain relationships in my life that I’m incredibly grateful for, and truly so much more. I even find myself more and more thanking him for little things such as artists I love. I find myself more and more thanking God for Taylor Swift because in my opinion she just doesn’t miss, and He created her that way, which I think is really beautiful. The same way he created the chef at my favorite restaurant to make the most delicious tacos on the planet; thank you Lord. He created you for a reason, He loves you, and He keeps you safe.

What are 3 things you can thank Him for today?
