23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
R. Praise the Lord my Soul
Written by Julianna Nett
Today’s theme of not only the psalm but also the first reading’s prophecy along with the fulfillment of such in the Gospel proves that we can trust in the Lord. He makes promises and He indeed fulfills them.
Have you ever thought “Hey God, what the heck?” because you felt as if a promise that had been made or something you were hoping for didn’t work out? Because same, more times than I can even count. Remember that “Not Yet” is an answer too. Waiting is the hardest part as humans, and I truly believe that. When I’m at my favorite restaurant waiting for my food or at a theme park waiting in line it is probably the least enjoyable part because I am anticipating something great. I’ll even witness myself getting impatient and a little hangry, aka not being my most enjoyable self to be around. The same is true when we’re waiting on something to be fulfilled by the Lord, but it does indeed require patience. It’s always so worth it to wait for his timing because He truly brings the greatest things whether it be a bucket of wings with endless ranch or a job or promotion you’ve been waiting on.
Don’t be afraid to praise Him in the waiting and definitely do not forget when He’s gifted us with something great. We’ve all been there. Thanking Him can sometimes be the last thing on our minds, but He can be the first person we blame when things go astray. I’d encourage you to thank Him for 3 things each day. Just general safety is such a blessing that I take for granted far too often.
How can you praise Him throughout all your seasons?
