24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

R. I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

Written by Will Hickl

"See, the Lord GOD is my help; who will prove me wrong?" This final line from today's first reading in Isaiah displays a confidence I pray we can all strive for, especially in light of the last line of the gospel: "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the gospel will save it."

In light of how things are going in the world right now, I think it's important to know that death is not the end. Persecution, suffering, sorrow, and other tribulations we face will bring us closer to Christ and sanctify us if we seek God's grace and devote our lives to Him.

As we sing in today's psalm, we are destined to walk before the Lord, in the land of the living, and God-willing in heaven.

Do you have the confidence in God's provision and protection? In what ways can you continue dying to yourself for the sake of salvation?
